Strength is the foundation, and movement is always on my mind.
I have been thinking and learning about movement and strength since I was thirteen. I made all of the mistakes and wasted time on stupid shit so that you don’t have to.

Welcome to my blog! This is a project that is separate from my clinical practice and instruction but is a part of my mission to bring zero-cost information about health, fitness, strength, and movement science to the general public. Beyond that, my desire is to make health, wellness, and fitness more accessible for everyone.

Why Should You Care What I Have To Say?

Before I mention my credentials, I should let you know that I am not naturally talented. I don’t have the genetics of an athlete or naturally strong human. I am painfully average. My body has always had a hard time putting on muscle. Because of this, I needed to work much harder, but more importantly smarter, than most other people. I had to claw my way into starting positions for sports teams. I learned to sniff out fads and bullshit programs out of necessity. I had to have an incredibly intimate knowledge of how to train to have any sort of chance of competing.

I looked for any secret to make me bigger, stronger, and faster… And then I learned that there isn’t any secret. I learned that there are many gimmicks and nonsense out there.

I have read dozens of books, hundreds of studies, and put in countless hours in the weight room with countless individuals to cut through the bullshit. I have trained with people from all walks of life and learned that complexity is a fad and simplicity is your friend.

So here is my work. Over a decade of knowledge and still learning. My name is Ken Okada. I have my doctorate in Physical Therapy. Most of my clinical work is focused on musculoskeletal pathologies, injuries, and sports medicine. The weight room and squat rack have been my home for over 15 years.

Here is to the noble pursuit of strength and wisdom.
